A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run near the Frandor shopping center late Wednesday, Aug. 19, according to the Lansing Police Department, which confirmed the death to WLNS.
Officers went to the scene just before 11 p.m. after a report of a pedestrian struck on East Grand River Avenue near Frandor, according to WILX. They found the man with severe injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The vehicle that struck him fled the scene. Lansing police are investigating the crash as a hit-and-run.
No description of the suspect or the vehicle has been released.
Lansing Police and Fire departments went to the scene near a business across from Frandor around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, according to WLNS. The Lansing State Journal and Lansing City Pulse placed the crash in the 3200 block of East Grand River Avenue, near the border between Lansing and East Lansing.
The victim's age has been reported differently across outlets. The Lansing State Journal, WLNS and Lansing City Pulse identified him as 63 years old, while WILX reported his age as 60. Lansing police have not publicly released the victim's name or issued a public statement about the case beyond confirming the death.
A portion of Grand River Avenue was closed for the investigation Wednesday, Aug. 19, but has since reopened.
The fatality marks the second deadly incident Lansing police investigated in the same overnight window. A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed around 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, on the 300 block of East Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing, a separate case.
