The City of Lansing will close stretches of Capitol Avenue and Michigan Avenue on Saturday, Nov. 7, for the state Christmas tree delivery.

The City of Lansing Public Service Department announced that Capitol Avenue from Allegan Street to Ottawa Street and Michigan Avenue from Capitol Avenue to Washington Square will shut down starting at about 8 a.m. The tree-delivery closures are expected to last until about 11 a.m.

The department recommended that motorists avoid the area if possible.

The intersection of Capitol Avenue and Ottawa Street is already closed. A separate city advisory attributes that closure to paving and sidewalk work and says it is expected to continue through Monday, Nov. 16.

Residents with questions can contact the Public Service Department at 517-483-4456. The city also provides a map of the affected streets.

The tree delivery is part of the lead-up to Silver Bells in the City, the annual downtown holiday celebration. The Lansing Board of Water and Light, a presenting sponsor, lists this year’s Silver Bells for Friday, Nov. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m. The state Christmas tree lighting follows the Electric Light Parade that evening, according to the BWL event page.
