Lansing’s new Fire Station 9 will hold its grand opening Monday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m.

The event takes place at 2320 S. Washington Ave., according to an announcement from the city. Light refreshments will be provided.

The new station replaces the former Fire Station 9 on Cedar Street. Lansing City Pulse reported in January that the older building had water damage, mold and insufficient space.

The station is part of a broader public safety construction program financed by a $175 million bond issue approved by voters in 2022, WKAR reported.

The new campus will bring together police and fire headquarters, the 54A District Court and a temporary detention facility, according to the city’s financial report.

The program also includes a rebuilt Station 2 and renovations to Stations 1 and 8, according to River Caddis Management, the city’s project manager.

Later city records point to work continuing into 2027. Draft minutes from the July 27 Committee of the Whole meeting recorded anticipated openings of Jan. 4, 2027, for the public safety complex and Jan. 30 for Station 8. Those were projected dates presented at that meeting.
