Drivers who use Jolly Road in south Lansing need to find a new route starting Monday.

The stretch of Jolly Road between Cedar Street and Pennsylvania Avenue will close Monday, Aug. 24, for roadway construction and is not expected to reopen until Friday, Nov. 20, according to a traffic advisory from the city's Public Service Department. That's nearly three months without one of south Lansing's key east-west connectors.

The city said detours will be posted and local traffic will be maintained during the closure. No specific detour streets were named. A PDF map of detour routes is available on the city's advisory page. Drivers needing access to Ingham County Facilities should use the Cedar Street entrance.

The closure is part of a larger 2026 construction project that also involves work on Pennsylvania Avenue and Mt. Hope Avenue, according to the city's project page. The specific scope of work on Jolly Road, whether full reconstruction, repaving or utility-related, has not been detailed publicly.

The Jolly Road corridor between Pennsylvania and Cedar has already seen multiple short-term disruptions this year. Westbound Jolly closed April 9 for a water main repair by the Lansing Board of Water & Light, and the same stretch shut down overnight May 28-29 for fire hydrant repairs. This closure is far longer.

The Public Service Department's X account, @LansingPubServ, confirmed the same closure details in a post Thursday, Aug. 20, the day the advisory went live.
