East Lansing's volleyball team turned its home match on Tuesday, Sept. 22, into a community fundraiser for assistant coach Ericka Baer, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in November 2025.

The Trojans hosted their "Block out Hodgkin Lymphoma" night, selling special shirts and donating a portion of the proceeds to the Karmanos Cancer Center, as first reported by WLNS. Players wore purple ribbons in their hair.

Baer underwent chemotherapy and completed treatment in June, according to WLNS. She has been back on the Trojans' sideline this fall, coaching alongside the players who organized the night in her honor.

The proceeds will go to the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing, located at 3520 Forest Rd. in Lansing. Karmanos is one of 58 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country.

On the court, East Lansing took the first set 26-24 before DeWitt won the next three 25-16, 25-10 and 25-20 to claim the match 3-1.

The loss moved East Lansing to 4-3 this fall, per MaxPreps. The Trojans had swept Grand Ledge, Everett and Waverly and beaten Okemos in five sets earlier in September. Their other loss came against Lenawee Christian on Aug. 26.

DeWitt improved to 5-0 in Capital Area Activities Conference (CAAC) Blue play and sits alone in first place, per MaxPreps.

The Panthers' unbeaten league run includes the four-set win at East Lansing. DeWitt carries a 12-7 overall record into the stretch run of conference play.

East Lansing's next match is Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. against Grand Ledge, per MaxPreps. DeWitt hosts Everett at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
