Lansing Eastern's boys soccer team hosts East Lansing in a CAAC Cup Gold bracket semifinal Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
The Quakers are 12-1-3 as of Oct. 2 and enter the CAAC Cup after winning the program's first league championship. The official CAAC bracket confirms East Lansing will play at Eastern, while the Lansing School District athletics calendar lists the varsity CAAC Cup game at 7 p.m.
Eastern earned the No. 2 seed in the Gold bracket after winning the CAAC Red title. CAAC Blue champion Okemos is the No. 1 seed, East Lansing is No. 3 and CAAC Red runner-up Haslett is No. 4, according to the CAAC.
In the other Gold Cup semifinal, Okemos hosts Haslett on the same night. The Gold Cup final and consolation game are set for Thursday, Oct. 8.
The Quakers have scored 49 goals and allowed just 10 this season, according to MaxPreps. The site ranks Eastern No. 7 in Michigan's Division 2 and No. 29 overall.
Senior forward Tresor Ebuela has powered the offense. He led Greater Lansing with 22 goals through Sept. 23, according to Lansing State Journal stats. In a Sept. 28 Lansing State Journal athlete-of-the-week item, Ebuela was credited with 11 goals and three assists over Eastern’s previous two games, including five goals and three assists in the 8-0 win over St. Johns on Sept. 22 that clinched the CAAC Red crown.
"I've been here for four years and we went through the struggle," Ebuela said after that title-clinching win. "Freshman year we went 2-14, sophomore year 4-14."
Head coach Luke Kane, in his third year leading the program, guided Eastern to an 11-4-3 record last season before this year's breakthrough. He said after the Sept. 22 win that the turnaround came faster than he expected, crediting the players' three years of work.
Two other Lansing-area schools are in the CAAC Cup. Lansing Everett is the No. 3 seed in the Bronze Cup bracket and travels to No. 2 seed Williamston on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. Lansing Sexton is the No. 4 seed in the Copper Cup bracket and plays at No. 1 seed Fowlerville on Monday, Oct. 5.
