The North American tour of "The Notebook" opens at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing on Tuesday, Oct. 27, with eight performances running through Sunday, Nov. 1, according to the Wharton Center's event listing.

The production carries a Michigan connection. Angela Birchett, who plays Older Allie, grew up in Detroit, graduated from Renaissance High School and taught for Detroit Public Schools before moving to New York, according to WILX.

Tickets are on sale.

Unlike the 2004 film, the stage version features three pairs of actors playing Allie and Noah at different ages. WILX reported that the older characters remain onstage for much of the production, with Noah recounting their relationship to Allie as her memory fades.

Birchett's Broadway credits include "Hell's Kitchen" and "The Color Purple." Both credits appear in her official tour biography.

The musical features music and lyrics by singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter, a writer on NBC's "This Is Us." Directors Michael Greif ("Dear Evan Hansen," "Rent") and Schele Williams ("The Wiz") lead the production, according to the Wharton Center's season lineup.

Tony Award-winning actor John Rubinstein plays Older Noah. The tour launched in September 2025 and had played 33 cities as of BroadwayWorld’s Aug. 31 report.

Birchett told WILX she hopes audience members affected by memory loss feel recognized by the story. The show is recommended for ages 10 and older and runs about two hours and 20 minutes with one intermission, according to Wharton Center.
