Spare Time Entertainment, the bowling alley and entertainment center near Frandor that closed after a fire last year, will not reopen.

The 3.3-acre property at 3101 E. Grand River Ave. is advertised for $4.95 million in a Crexi listing posted by CRS Commercial Real Estate Services. The listing identifies a 42,800-square-foot building.

The business operated first as Holiday Lanes and later as Spare Time Entertainment. Its owners confirmed the permanent closure in a statement on the company’s website, ending more than six decades of operation.

Ownership said the fire “combined with other significant challenges, has led to the difficult decision not to rebuild.”

WLNS reported that a fire outside the building April 28, 2025, sent black smoke over the Frandor area. A burned trailer was visible behind the building.

WITL reported that the entertainment center sustained smoke, soot and water damage and that no one inside was hurt. The company’s website gives a different fire date, May 4, 2025.

Owner Mike MacColeman died unexpectedly May 29, 2025, according to WITL, which described him as the family business’s patriarch.

Before closing, Spare Time offered bowling, an arcade, escape rooms and axe throwing.

Leo Gonzalez of CRS Commercial Real Estate Services is the contact named on the property listing.

The broker markets the site for redevelopment and describes its zoning as MX-2, with potential retail, office, residential and certain entertainment uses. The listing suggests a mid-rise residential or mixed-use project could serve demand associated with nearby Michigan State University.

The property is near Frandor, rather than on MSU’s campus. The listing describes potential redevelopment uses rather than a confirmed project.
