Former Michigan State University resident physician Arpit Saxena’s preliminary examination in East Lansing has been postponed to Dec. 10, WILX reported Thursday, Oct. 29.
Saxena faces three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving accusations from two patients.
The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the charges Sept. 3, according to MSU police’s announcement.
A preliminary examination determines whether there is sufficient evidence to send a felony case to circuit court. It does not determine guilt, according to the 54B District Court’s explanation of felony proceedings.
Police said their investigation began after a patient reported sexual assault following an April 3, 2025, appointment at an MSU Health Care facility on South Hagadorn Road. Investigators subsequently identified a second patient who also reported sexual assault by the physician.
Saxena was removed from patient care April 7, 2025, police said. Investigators submitted their case to prosecutors Aug. 28, 2025.
Police later located Saxena in Atlanta, where he was arrested.
In a Sept. 25 update, MSU police said he had been arraigned in East Lansing and that bond was set at $2 million.
MSU subsequently said it had four additional investigations based on reports received after police established a tip line, according to a university statement published by WDIV on Oct. 26. Those investigations were separate from the two reports that resulted in criminal charges.
Former patients with concerns about care they received from Saxena between July 1, 2024, and April 7, 2025, can contact MSU police at 844-996-7873 or [email protected].
