Downtown Lansing trick-or-treating

Trick or Treat on the Square runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, along the 100–300 blocks of South Washington Square.

Downtown Lansing Inc. says more than 40 businesses and community partners will participate. Plans include candy, a costume contest, games, crafts, face painting, balloon animals and live entertainment.

Halloween safety

Safe Kids Worldwide recommends adding reflective materials to costumes and treat bags, carrying lights and using sidewalks.

Children should cross at intersections and crosswalks, checking for traffic as they cross. The organization recommends that children younger than 12 trick-or-treat with an adult.

Drivers should slow down and watch closely for children, particularly when turning or backing up.
